Depositing euros on eToro: from the euro wallet to the dollar account and what converting costs
How eToro's euro account and dollar account work, which conversion fees apply by Club tier, and why the EUR/USD exchange rate matters more than it seems.
In short
- An EU resident can have a euro account (the wallet) and a US dollar investment account.
- Moving euros to the dollar account is a currency conversion with a fee that depends on your Club tier.
- Beyond the fee there is exchange-rate risk: the euro value of your dollars changes every day.
Data from eToro's official pages, checked on 2 October 2026. Costs and rules can change: always verify on the site before acting.
Two accounts, two currencies
According to eToro, EU clients can hold euros in the euro account (run by a different group company from the investment account) and dollars in the investment account at the same time. Investments, and the balance that earns interest on balance, sit in the dollar account. To use euros as dollars you therefore transfer between the two.
How to transfer euros to the dollar account
- Add euros to the euro account with one of the available deposit methods.
- From the Wallet tab or the Deposit/Withdraw menu, choose the euro account as the source and the dollar investment account as the destination.
- Enter the amount and confirm. The conversion happens at the rate of the moment.
The reverse route (dollars to euros) works the same way and triggers another conversion. Exact menu names may change in the app: follow the prompts on the platform.
What converting costs
For transfers between local currency and the dollar, eToro's fees page shows a base fee of 0.75% for the EU and UK. The Club adds discounts: 20% for Silver and Gold, 40% for Platinum and Platinum+, 80% for Diamond.
| Club tier | Fee | Cost on 10,000 € |
|---|---|---|
| Bronze (no discount) | 0.75% | 75 € |
| Silver and Gold (20% off) | 0.60% | 60 € |
| Platinum and Platinum+ (40% off) | 0.45% | 45 € |
| Diamond (80% off) | 0.15% | 15 € |
For depositing euros straight into the dollar account, the same page lists a conversion of 150 pips, roughly 1.3–1.5% depending on the exchange rate, for every payment method (card, e-wallet, online banking and bank transfer). So, on the data checked, going through the euro account can cost about half as much. The page does not say how Club discounts apply to each line: check before you deposit.
The real cost is not only the fee
Exchange-rate risk
Once in dollars, the euro value of that balance moves with the EUR/USD rate. If the dollar falls 5% against the euro, you lose about 5% in euros, whatever your investment does. It can work the other way too, but it is a risk worth seeing in advance. Even for a pending order, eToro warns that changes in the exchange rate at the time of conversion can affect the price or the proceeds.
There and back
If you bring the money back to euros you pay the conversion again. At the base fee that is about 150 € on 10,000 €, at an unchanged exchange rate. It is a number to compare with what you hope to earn, and the reason to do this calmly rather than for every small move.
A checklist before you deposit
- What is your current conversion fee? It depends on your Club tier.
- Do you actually need the dollar account? Check on the platform whether what you want to buy requires converting at all.
- How long will you leave the money? Over short periods the costs weigh more.
- Are you comfortable with exchange-rate swings?
- Have you checked withdrawal costs and how many days they take?
- Have you checked who the firm is and how the tax side works?
